Text[0]="&nbsp;1. After being saved from the fiery snakes, Moses led the children of Israel north toward the Dead Sea. They went around the country of Moab into the land of King Sihon.";
Text[1]="&nbsp;2. Sihon fought against the Israelites, but lost. Now Israel controlled the land from the Arnon River in the south to the Jabbok in the north, from the Jordan River in the west to the land of Am­mon in the east.";
Text[2]="&nbsp;3. Og, the king of Bashan in the north now came to fight them, but he too lost. Israel also took his land away from him.";
Text[3]="&nbsp;4. Moses led the children of Israel into the Jordan valley. Here they pitched their tents opposite the city of Jericho which was on the other side of the Jordan River.";
Text[4]="&nbsp;5. Now, Balak, the king of Moab, became worried over what the children of Israel might do to him and to his people.";
Text[5]="&nbsp;6. He sent messengers with gifts to Balaam, who was a prophet living in the north several hundred miles away. Balak asked Balaam to come and to curse the children of Israel so he and his people would be safe.";
Text[6]="&nbsp;7. When Balaam heard this he said to the messengers, "+speechstr+"Stay overnight. I"+aposstr+"ll ask God whether I should go."+speechstr+"";
Text[7]="&nbsp;8. That night God told Balaam, "+speechstr+"Don"+aposstr+"t go to Balak. The people of Is­rael are my people and I am fighting for them."+speechstr+"";
Text[8]="&nbsp;9. The next morning Balaam sent Balak's messengers back home alone.";
Text[9]="&nbsp;10. Balak sent his messengers back the second time. This time God finally told Balaam, "+speechstr+"You may go but you may only say what I tell you to say."+speechstr+"";
Text[10]="&nbsp;11. As Balaam was on his way God sent an angel to stand in his path. This happened twice. The second time his donkey squeezed Balaam's foot against a stone wall.";
Text[11]="&nbsp;12. The third time, the angel blocked the way in a very narrow part of the road. This time the donkey fell down. Balaam began to beat the donkey.";
Text[12]='&nbsp;13.  "Why are you hitting me?"  the donkey asked.  "Haven\'t I always served you faithfully? "';
Text[13]="&nbsp;14. Then God permitted Balaam to see the angel blocking the way "+speechstr+"Go,"+speechstr+" the angel said, "+speechstr+"but remember Balaam, you may only say what God tells you to say."+speechstr+"";
Text[14]="&nbsp;15. When Balak came to meet him, Balaam said, "+speechstr+"Balak, I have come but I may only say what God tells me to say."+speechstr+"";
Text[15]="&nbsp;16. The next morning Balaam brought a special offering. God told Balaam to tell Balak, "+speechstr+"I will bless the children of Israel. "+speechstr+"";
Text[16]="&nbsp;17. Balaam tried again and offered more sacrifices, but each time God would only permit him to bless, not curse the children of Israel.";
Text[17]="&nbsp;18. When this happened the third time, Balak became very angry. "+speechstr+"Didn"+aposstr+"t I send for you to curse Israel?"+speechstr+" he asked Balaam.";
Text[18]="&nbsp;19. Balaam answered, "+speechstr+"Didn"+aposstr+"t I tell you I could only say what God would permit me to say? I can't help myself."+speechstr+"";
