One day God told Moses, who now was 120 years old, "The time will soon come for you to see the Promised Land before you die."'; Text[2]='  3. "Now take Joshua, and lay your hands on him before all the people. I want them to know that he will be taking your place as their leader."'; Text[3]="  4. Moses called the people together. He laid his hands on Joshua as God had told him. Now everyone knew that Joshua would be the new leader when Moses had died."; Text[4]="  5. After blessing the people, Moses went up to the top of Mount Nebo near by. From here God showed Moses the Promised Land. Then Moses died and God buried him."; Text[5]='  6. Joshua sent 2 spies to cross the river and go to Jericho. The two spies slipped into the city late in the day."; Text[7]='  8. When they came back they told Joshua, "The people of Jericho are afraid of what will happen to them. They know that God is fighting for us."'; Text[8]="  9. At the river Joshua told the leaders how God wanted the people to go across the river."; Text[9]="  10. When all was ready the people went from their camp to the river. Joshua told the priests to carry the Ark of the Covenant and to lead the people."; Text[10]="  11. When the priests stepped into the river the water stood still like a wall on one side. On the other side it flowed away down the river to the Dead Sea. Now the people could begin to walk through the river on dry ground."; Text[11]="  12. God told Joshua to have one man from each of the twelve tribes to pick up a stone from the river bed."; Text[12]="  13. Later they piled up the twelve stones at Gilgal where they camped that night. These piled up stones were to re­mind the people in years to come what God had done for them."; Text[13]="  14. The priests with the Ark of the Covenant kept on standing in the river until all the people had walked through."; Text[14]="  15. When the priests walked out of the river, the water began to flow again as before."; Text[15]="  16. The children of Israel camped at Gilgal near Jericho.
