Long ago in the faraway land of Babylonia, there was a great city named Ur. Here the people worshipped the sun, moon, and stars. They built a high building, called a ziggurat. They climbed the steps to the top to worship their idols."; Text[1]=" 2. Abraham lived at Ur for many years. He watched people worship idols. But it seems that he himself did not worship them."; Text[2]=" 3. One night God said, "+speechstr+"Abraham, leave your country and go to the land that I will show you."+speechstr+""; Text[3]=" 4. Abraham took his wife Sarah, his father Terah, and others in his family. They moved from Ur in the south of Mesopotamia to Haran in the north. They traveled for many miles along the Euphrates River on their way to Haran."; Text[4]=" 5. For awhile, Abraham and his family lived at Haran. Here too, the people worshipped the moon god Sin, just as the people did in Ur."; Text[5]=" 6. When Terah died, God came to Abraham again and said, "+speechstr+"Go to the land I will show you. He took his wife Sarah, his nephew Lot, their many sheep, goats and cattle, and all they had and left Haran to go to the land of Canaan. He believed that God would keep His promise, and God blessed him."; Text[8]=" 9. God led Abraham and his family to the land of Canaan. It was a beautiful country but so different from that which Abraham knew. It was good land for raising sheep and goats."; Text[9]=" 10. When they came to Shechem, God said, "+speechstr+"Abraham, I will give this land to your descendants."+speechstr+" Abraham brought a sacrifice to God to thank Him for being so good to them."; Text[10]=" 11. Abraham and his family moved around in the land of Canaan. For awhile they lived near Bethel and Ai. Here Abraham set up an altar and worshipped God."; Text[11]=" 12. Both Abraham and his nephew Lot were very rich. They both had many sheep, goats, and cattle. There wasn't enough grass and water for all of the animals. Lot looked over the whole country around Bethel. He saw that the Jordan Valley to the east had much grass and water. He needed these for his animals. And so he decided to move into the Jordan Valley near the towns of Sodom and Gomorrah."; Text[14]=" 15. "+speechstr+"I will give to you and your family all the land that you can see,"+speechstr+" God told Abraham. "+speechstr+"It will always be yours. Abraham took his wife Sarah, his helpers and all his sheep, goats, and cattle and moved to a place called Mamre, near Hebron. Here he worshipped God. He lived at Mamre for many years."; Text[16]=" 17. Abraham had trained some of his men to be soldiers, so they could help protect his animals and all he had."; Text[17]=" 18. One day a messenger came to Abraham and said, "+speechstr+"The kings of Sodom and Gomorrah and three other towns lost a battle with their enemies. They and all their people have been taken away. Lot and his family, too, have been carried off."+speechstr+""; Text[18]=" 19. Abraham called 318 of his men together to chase after the enemy and save Lot. They hurried up the Jordan valley up to Dan near Mount Hermon. Here they surprised, attacked and beat the enemy. Now Lot, his family and the people of Sodom and Gomorrah could go back home again."; Text[19]=" 20. Later God wanted Lot and his family to leave the wicked towns of Sodom and Gomorrah.
