One day long ago Caesar Augustus, ruler of Rome and the land of Palestine, sent his soldiers to the Jews with a message. He ordered everyone to return to their hometown to sign up to pay their taxes.' Text[1]=' 2. Hearing this command, Joseph and Mary started planning for their journey. Bethlehem was their hometown.' Text[2]=' 3. Joseph and Mary travelled south to Bethlehem. The trip was long and hard. It took them about a week to get there.' Text[3]=' 4. At last they came to Bethlehem. The town was filled with people who also had come to be enrolled. How glad they must have been to have completed their journey.' Text[4]=' 5. Mary and Joseph went to an inn, or hotel. The innkeeper told them, "We have no room for you." Bethlehem was crowded with people from everywhere who had come to be enrolled.' Text[5]=' 6. The best place Joseph and Mary could find to stay was a stable. Under the crowded conditions they must have been thankful for even the stable.' Text[6]=' 7. That night baby Jesus was born. Mary wrapped Him in swaddling clothes and laid Him in a manger.' Text[7]=' 8. In the fields near Bethlehem that night some shepherds were watching over their sheep as they did every night.' Text[8]=' 9. Suddenly a great light shone around the shepherds. They were frightened.' Text[9]=' 10. An angel of God appeared to them and said: "Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the City of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger."' Text[10]=' 11. Then all at once the heavens were filled with many angels. They praised God and said: "Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, Good will toward men."' Text[11]=' 12. And when the angels had returned to heaven, the shepherds began talking to one another. They decided to go straight to Bethlehem to see about what the angel had told them.' Text[12]=' 13. The shepherds left their sheep and hurried on to Bethlehem to find the baby.' Text[13]=' 14. The shepherds searched for a stable, because the angel had said the baby would be lying in a manger. They soon found the stable where the baby Jesus and His parents were staying.' Text[14]=' 15. As the shepherds looked upon Jesus, they remembered the words of the angel. They knew this baby was the Savior, Christ the Lord.' Text[15]=' 16. Then the shepherds left the stable to go back to their sheep. The shepherds wanted to tell everyone the things they had heard and seen. They left to spread the good news to all the people.' Text[16]=' 17. We can just imagine their telling the people, "We have good news for you. God has sent His Son. We have seen the baby, lying in a manger-bed." They told them about the angel`s promise and how they had actually seen Christ, the Lord. The people listened, but they wondered about the story.' Text[17]=' 18. But the shepherds returned to their sheep, praising and thanking God for all the things they had heard and seen just as the angel had told them.' Text[18]=' 19. Mary always remembered the wonderful things the shepherds had told her about the coming of her son. She thought of this good news again and again.' Text[19]=' 20. Mary and Joseph named the baby JESUS. This was the name the angel had given Him even before He was born when the angel said, "Thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins."' // *** POSITIONING AND STYLES ********************************************* //**DO NOT EDIT THIS ***** //*********************** //************************
