for Jesus
Crucified and Buried Matthew 27:31-66; Mark 15:20-47; Luke 23:26-56; John 19: 16-42; Psalm 22 Matthew 27 31 And when they had mocked Him, they took the
robe off Him, put His own clothes on Him, and led Him away to be crucified. 32 Now as they came out, they found a man of 33 And when they had come to a place called 34 they gave Him sour wine mingled with gall
to drink. But when He had tasted it, He would not drink. 35 Then they crucified Him, and divided His
garments, casting lots, that it might be fulfilled which was
spoken by the prophet: "They divided My garments among them, And for My
clothing they cast lots." 36 Sitting down, they kept watch over Him
there. 37 And they put up over His head the
accusation written against Him: THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS. 38 Then two robbers were crucified with Him,
one on the right and another on the left. 39 And those who passed by blasphemed Him,
wagging their heads 40 and saying, "You
who destroy the temple and build it in three days, save Yourself! If You are the Son of God, come down from the cross." 41 Likewise the chief priests also, mocking
with the scribes and elders, said, 42 "He saved others; Himself He cannot
save. If He is the King of Israel, let Him now come down from the cross, and we
will believe Him. 43 "He trusted in God; let Him deliver
Him now if He will have Him; for He said, 'I am the Son of God.'" 44 Even the robbers who were crucified with
Him reviled Him with the same thing. 45 Now from the sixth hour until the ninth
hour there was darkness over all the land. 46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out
with a loud voice, saying, "Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?"
that is, "My God, My God, why have You forsaken
Me?" 47 Some of those who stood there, when they
heard that, said, "This Man is calling for Elijah!" 48 Immediately one of them ran and took a
sponge, filled it with sour wine and put it on a reed, and offered it to Him to
drink. 49 The rest said, "Let Him alone; let us
see if Elijah will come to save Him." 50 And Jesus cried out again with a loud
voice, and yielded up His spirit. 51 Then, behold, the veil of the temple was
torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split, 52 and the graves were opened; and many bodies
of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised; 53 and coming out of the graves after His
resurrection, they went into the holy city and appeared to
many. 54 So when the centurion and those with him,
who were guarding Jesus, saw the earthquake and the things that had happened,
they feared greatly, saying, "Truly this was the Son of God!" 55 And many women who followed Jesus from 56 among whom were
Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Joses,
and the mother of Zebedee's sons. 57 Now when evening had come, there came a
rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who himself
had also become a disciple of Jesus. 58 This man went to Pilate and asked for the
body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be given to him. 59 When Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped
it in a clean linen cloth, 60 and laid it in his new tomb which he had
hewn out of the rock; and he rolled a large stone against the door of the tomb,
and departed. 61 And Mary Magdalene was there, and the other
Mary, sitting opposite the tomb. 62 On the next day, which followed the Day of
Preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees gathered together to Pilate, 63 saying, "Sir, we remember, while He
was still alive, how that deceiver said, 'After three days I will rise.' 64 "Therefore command
that the tomb be made secure until the third day, lest His disciples come by
night and steal Him away, and say to the people, 'He has risen from the dead.'
So the last deception will be worse than the first." 65 Pilate said to them, "You have a
guard; go your way, make it as secure as you know how." 66 So they went and made the tomb secure,
sealing the stone and setting the guard. (NKJV) Mark 15 20 And when they had mocked Him, they took the
purple off Him, put His own clothes on Him, and led Him out to crucify Him. 21 Then they compelled a certain man, Simon a Cyrenian, the father of Alexander and Rufus, as he was
coming out of the country and passing by, to bear His cross. 22 And they brought Him to the place 23 Then they gave Him wine mingled with myrrh
to drink, but He did not take it. 24 And when they crucified Him, they divided
His garments, casting lots for them to determine what every man should take. 25 Now it was the third hour, and they
crucified Him. 26 And the inscription of His accusation was
written above: THE KING OF THE JEWS. 27 With Him they also crucified two robbers,
one on His right and the other on His left. 28 So the Scripture was fulfilled which says,
"And He was numbered with the transgressors." 29 And those who passed by blasphemed Him,
wagging their heads and saying, "Aha! You who destroy the temple and build
it in three days, 30 "save Yourself,
and come down from the cross!" 31 Likewise the chief priests also, mocking
among themselves with the scribes, said, "He saved others; Himself He
cannot save. 32 "Let the Christ, the King of Israel,
descend now from the cross, that we may see and
believe." Even those who were crucified with Him reviled Him. 33 Now when the sixth hour had come, there was
darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour. 34 And at the ninth hour Jesus cried out with
a loud voice, saying, "Eloi, Eloi,
lama sabachthani?" which is translated, "My
God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?" 35 Some of those who stood by, when they heard
that, said, "Look, He is calling for Elijah!" 36 Then someone ran and filled a sponge full
of sour wine, put it on a reed, and offered it to Him to drink, saying,
"Let Him alone; let us see if Elijah will come to take Him down." 37 And Jesus cried out with a loud voice, and
breathed His last. 38 Then the veil of the temple was torn in two
from top to bottom. 39 So when the centurion, who stood opposite
Him, saw that He cried out like this and breathed His last, he said,
"Truly this Man was the Son of God!" 40 There were also women looking on from afar,
among whom were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James the Less and of Joses, and Salome, 41 who also followed Him and ministered to Him
when He was in 42 Now when evening had come, because it was
the Preparation Day, that is, the day before the Sabbath, 43 Joseph of Arimathea,
a prominent council member, who was himself waiting for the kingdom of God,
coming and taking courage, went in to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. 44 Pilate marveled that He was already dead;
and summoning the centurion, he asked him if He had been dead for some time. 45 So when he found out from the centurion, he
granted the body to Joseph. 46 Then he bought fine linen, took Him down,
and wrapped Him in the linen. And he laid Him in a tomb which had been hewn out
of the rock, and rolled a stone against the door of the tomb. 47 And Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses observed where He was laid. (NKJV) Luke 23 26 Now as they led Him away, they
laid hold of a certain man, Simon a Cyrenian, who was
coming from the country, and on him they laid the cross that he might bear it
after Jesus. 27 And a great multitude of the
people followed Him, and women who also mourned and lamented Him. 28 But Jesus, turning to them,
said, "Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for
Me, but weep for yourselves and for your children. 29 "For indeed the days are
coming in which they will say, 'Blessed are the barren, wombs that never bore,
and breasts which never nursed!' 30 "Then they will begin 'to
say to the mountains, "Fall on us!" and to the hills, "Cover
us!"' 31 "For if
they do these things in the green wood, what will be done in the dry?" 32 There were also two others,
criminals, led with Him to be put to death. 33 And when they had come to the
place called 34 Then Jesus said, "Father,
forgive them, for they do not know what they do." And they divided His
garments and cast lots. 35 And the people stood looking
on. But even the rulers with them sneered, saying, "He saved others; let
Him save Himself if He is the Christ, the chosen of God." 36 The soldiers also mocked Him,
coming and offering Him sour wine, 37 and saying, "If You are the King of the Jews, save Yourself." 38 And an inscription also was
written over Him in letters of Greek, Latin, and Hebrew: THIS IS THE KING OF
THE JEWS. 39 Then one of the criminals who
were hanged blasphemed Him, saying, "If You are
the Christ, save Yourself and us." 40 But the other, answering,
rebuked him, saying, "Do you not even fear God, seeing you are under the
same condemnation? 41 "And we indeed justly,
for we receive the due reward of our deeds; but this Man has done nothing
wrong." 42 Then he said to Jesus,
"Lord, remember me when You come into Your
kingdom." 43 And Jesus said to him,
"Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me
in 44 Now it was about the sixth
hour, and there was darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour. 45 Then the sun was darkened, and
the veil of the temple was torn in two. 46 And when Jesus had cried out
with a loud voice, He said, "Father, 'into Your
hands I commit My spirit.'" Having said this, He breathed His last. 47 So when the centurion saw what
had happened, he glorified God, saying, "Certainly this was a righteous
Man!" 48 And the whole crowd who came
together to that sight, seeing what had been done, beat their breasts and
returned. 49 But all His acquaintances, and
the women who followed Him from 50 Now behold, there was a man
named Joseph, a council member, a good and just man. 51 He had not consented to their
decision and deed. He was from Arimathea, a city of
the Jews, who himself was also waiting for the 52 This man went to Pilate and
asked for the body of Jesus. 53 Then he took it down, wrapped
it in linen, and laid it in a tomb that was hewn out of the rock, where no one
had ever lain before. 54 That day was the Preparation,
and the Sabbath drew near. 55 And the women who had come
with Him from 56 Then they returned and
prepared spices and fragrant oils. And they rested on the Sabbath according to
the commandment. (NKJV) John 19 16 Then he delivered Him to them to be
crucified. So they took Jesus and led Him away. 17 And He, bearing His cross, went out to a
place called the Place of a Skull, which is called in Hebrew, 18 where they crucified Him,
and two others with Him, one on either side, and Jesus in the center. 19 Now Pilate wrote a title and put it on the
cross. And the writing was: JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS. 20 Then many of the Jews read this title, for
the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city; and it was written in
Hebrew, Greek, and Latin. 21 Therefore the chief priests of the Jews
said to Pilate, "Do not write, 'The King of the Jews,' but, 'He said,
"I am the King of the Jews."'" 22 Pilate answered, "What I have written,
I have written." 23 Then the soldiers, when they had crucified
Jesus, took His garments and made four parts, to each soldier a part, and also
the tunic. Now the tunic was without seam, woven from the top in one piece. 24 They said therefore among themselves,
"Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be," that
the Scripture might be fulfilled which says: "They divided My garments among them, And for My clothing they cast
lots." Therefore the soldiers did these things. 25 Now there stood by the cross of Jesus His
mother, and His mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas,
and Mary Magdalene. 26 When Jesus therefore saw His mother, and
the disciple whom He loved standing by, He said to His mother, "Woman,
behold your son!" 27 Then He said to the disciple, "Behold
your mother!" And from that hour that disciple took her to his own home. 28 After this, Jesus, knowing that all things
were now accomplished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, said, "I
thirst!" 29 Now a vessel full of sour wine was sitting
there; and they filled a sponge with sour wine, put it on hyssop, and put it to
His mouth. 30 So when Jesus had received the sour wine,
He said, "It is finished!" And bowing His head, He gave up His
spirit. 31 Therefore, because it was the Preparation
Day, that the bodies should not remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that
Sabbath was a high day), the Jews asked Pilate that their legs might be broken,
and that they might be taken away. 32 Then the soldiers came and broke the legs
of the first and of the other who was crucified with Him. 33 But when they came to Jesus and saw that He
was already dead, they did not break His legs. 34 But one of the soldiers pierced His side
with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out. 35 And he who has seen has testified, and his
testimony is true; and he knows that he is telling the truth, so that you may
believe. 36 For these things were done that the
Scripture should be fulfilled, "Not one of His bones shall be
broken." 37 And again another Scripture says,
"They shall look on Him whom they pierced." 38 After this, Joseph of Arimathea,
being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly, for fear of the Jews, asked Pilate
that he might take away the body of Jesus; and Pilate gave him permission. So he
came and took the body of Jesus. 39 And Nicodemus, who at first came to Jesus
by night, also came, bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred
pounds. 40 Then they took the body of Jesus, and bound
it in strips of linen with the spices, as the custom of the Jews is to bury. 41 Now in the place where He was crucified
there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb in which no one had yet been
laid. 42 So there they laid Jesus, because of the
Jews' Preparation Day, for the tomb was nearby. (NKJV) Psalms 22 1 To
the Chief Musician. Set to "The Deer of the Dawn." A
Psalm of David. >> My
God, My God, why have You forsaken Me? Why are You so far from helping Me, And
from the words of My groaning? 2 O My God, I cry in the daytime, but You do not hear; And in the night season, and am not silent. 3 But You are holy,
Enthroned in the praises of 4 Our fathers trusted in You;
They trusted, and You delivered them. 5 They cried to You,
and were delivered; They trusted in You, and were not ashamed. 6 But I am a worm, and no man; A reproach of
men, and despised by the people. 7 All those who see Me
ridicule Me; They shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying, 8 "He trusted in the LORD, let Him rescue
Him; Let Him deliver Him, since He delights in Him!" 9 But You are He who
took Me out of the womb; You made Me trust while on My mother's breasts. 10 I was cast upon You
from birth. From My mother's womb You have been My
God. 11 Be not far from Me, For
trouble is near; For there is none to help. 12 Many bulls have surrounded Me; Strong bulls of 13 They gape at Me
with their mouths, Like a raging and roaring lion. 14 I am poured out like water, And all My bones are out of joint; My heart is like wax; It
has melted within Me. 15 My strength is dried up like a potsherd, And My tongue clings to My jaws; You have brought Me to the
dust of death. 16 For dogs have surrounded Me;
The congregation of the wicked has enclosed Me. They pierced My
hands and My feet; 17 I can count all My
bones. They look and stare at Me. 18 They divide My
garments among them, And for My clothing they cast lots. 19 But You, O LORD, do not be far from Me; O My Strength, hasten to help Me! 20 Deliver Me from the sword, My precious life from the power of the dog. 21 Save Me from the lion's mouth And from the horns of the wild oxen! You have answered Me. 22 I will declare Your
name to My brethren; In the midst of the assembly I will praise You. 23 You who fear the LORD,
praise Him! All you descendants of Jacob, glorify Him, And
fear Him, all you offspring of 24 For He has not despised nor abhorred the
affliction of the afflicted; Nor has He hidden His
face from Him; But when He cried to Him, He heard. 25 My praise shall be of You
in the great assembly; I will pay My vows before those who fear Him. 26 The poor shall eat and be satisfied; Those who seek Him will praise the LORD. Let your heart live
forever! 27 All the ends of the world Shall remember and turn to the LORD, And all the families of
the nations Shall worship before You. 28 For the kingdom is the LORD'S, And He rules
over the nations. 29 All the prosperous of the earth Shall eat and worship; All those who go down to the dust
Shall bow before Him, Even he who cannot keep himself alive. 30 A posterity shall
serve Him. It will be recounted of the Lord to the next generation, 31 They will come and declare His
righteousness to a people who will be born, That He has done this. NKJV |
