After praying, the leaders of the church laid their hands on Paul and Barnabas and sent them out.'; Text[2]='3. Paul and Barnabas went to the seaport of Antioch to find a ship going to the Island of Cyprus, sixty miles away.'; Text[3]='4. Arriving at Salamis, they traveled across the Island of Cyprus to the capital of Paphos.'; Text[4]='5. Here Paul and Barnabas went from synagog to synagog telling people, "Jesus is God\'s Son; He is the promised Savior."'; Text[5]='6. Sergius Paulus, the governor of Cyprus, heard about them. He invited Paul and Barnabas to speak to him and his men at his palace. Among them was Elymas Bar-Jesus, a Jewish sorcerer.'; Text[6]='7. Bar-Jesus was very unhappy that the governor liked what Paul was saying about Jesus as the Savior. He began to argue with Paul.'; Text[7]='8. He looked for someone to lead him.'; Text[9]='10. Soon after this, Paul and Barnabas sailed north from Cyprus to Perga on the mainland of Asia Minor, 130 miles away.'; Text[10]='11. From Perga, Paul and Barnabas climbed up through the rough Taurus Mountains to Antioch in Pisidia.'; Text[11]='12. Antioch was the capital of the Roman providence of Galatia. It was also a very busy trade center.'; Text[12]='13. On the Sabbath day, Paul and Barnabas went to the synagog. They probably sat in a special place up front reserved for visitors.'; Text[13]='14. After the opening prayers and the Scripture readings, the synagog leaders sent a man to tell them, "If you have anything to say to us, you may speak."'; Text[14]='15. Paul got up and said, "We have come to tell you the good news. God sent Jesus as the promised Savior. Jesus was killed but rose from the dead."'; Text[15]='16. "This Jesus forgives your sins. Be careful to listen and believe in Him lest you perish as the prophet Habakkuk said long ago."'; Text[16]='17. The people asked Paul and Barnabas to tell them more on the next Sabbath. Many followed them to hear about Jesus.'; Text[17]='18. The following Sabbath the synagog was crowded with people. The Jews were so jealous, they said, "It\'s not true.
