As part of everyday Jewish worship. a morning and afternoon sacrifice were made at the temple for the sins of the people.'; Text[1]='2. During this sacrifice, a priest burned incense on the altar in the Holy Place of the temple. As the cloud of incense rose from the altar, both the priest and the people prayed to God.'; Text[2]='3. One day at 3 P.M., Peter and John were going to the temple during the time of the sacrifice.'; Text[3]='4. With many other people they walked through the outer court to enter the holy part of the temple.'; Text[4]='5. At the "Beautiful Gate" Peter and John saw a crippled man. He was carried there every day by friends who wanted to help him.'; Text[5]='6. He begged for money from the many people who went through this gate into the holy part of the temple.'; Text[6]='7. When he saw Peter and John, he also asked them for money.'; Text[7]='8. "Look straight at us!" Peter said. "If you are expecting silver or gold I have neither but what I have I will certainly give you. In the name of Jesus Christ. . . walk!"'; Text[8]='9. Peter took him by the right hand and helped him up.'; Text[9]='10. The man could walk. He went with Peter and John into the temple, walking and jumping around, praising God.'; Text[10]='11. The people who had known him as a cripple were very much surprised when they saw him walking and jumping around.'; Text[11]='12. Peter told them that the man was healed through faith in the name of Jesus Christ whom they had killed but had been raised from the dead by the heavenly Father.'; Text[12]='13. The apostles pleaded with the people to repent and turn to God so that their sins could be taken away.'; Text[13]='14. In the meantime someone told members of the Council what Peter and John had done for the crippled man and what they were saying about Jesus Christ.'; Text[14]='15. Peter and John were arrested and put into jail for the night. The Jews were angry because they taught that Jesus had been raised from the dead.'; Text[15]='16. The next day the Council met to try Peter and John. They asked by what power or in whose name they did this miracle.'; Text[16]='17. Peter said that all of them should know that this man was made well by the name of Jesus Christ whom they crucified, but whom God had raised from the dead.'; Text[17]='18. They sent Peter and John out of the room. "What are we going to do?" they asked. They knew a great miracle had taken place and that all the people had seen this miraculous healing.'; Text[18]='19. They called them back and ordered them not to do or say anything any more in the name of Jesus.'; Text[19]='20. But Peter and John answered, that they could not stop telling what they had seen with their own eyes. They said that they would listen to God rather than to men.';
