The word covenant has the following meanings and
synonyms in the American Heritage Dictionary:
1. (n.) An often legally binding arrangement:
   agreement accord arrangement bargain
   bond compact contract convention pact
   transaction settlement
2. (n.) A declaration that one will or won't do
something:

   promise agreement assurance bargain
   bond commitment compact contract
deal guarantee oath pledge surety vow

There are two (2) major covenants [or agreements] that God arranged
with men through the ages. Unlike the "flood covenant" these were
like contracts. Men were obligated as well as God.
