Historical Comments:
     Israel has continued to disobey God. The northern part (called "house of Israel") has been destroyed.
     Now God threatens to take the south ("house of Judah") into captivity. God foretells events through His  prophets.
     Jeremiah is one of these prophets. One of his prophecies is found in the 31st chapter.

Jeremiah is born one thousand years after the giving of the covenant at Mount Sinai (Horeb).
