Texts for Jesus Tried Before Caiaphas Matthew 26:57-27:1; Mark 14:53-15:1; Luke 22:54-71; John 18:12-27; Acts 1:18-19 Matthew 26 57 And those who had laid hold of Jesus led
Him away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes
and the elders were assembled. 58 But Peter followed Him at a distance to the
high priest's courtyard. And he went in and sat with the servants to see the
end. 59 Now the chief priests, the elders, and all
the council sought false testimony against Jesus to put Him to death, 60 but found none. Even though many false
witnesses came forward, they found none. But at last two false witnesses came
forward 61 and said, "This fellow said, 'I am
able to destroy the 62 And the high priest arose and said to Him,
"Do You answer nothing? What is it these men
testify against You?" 63 But Jesus kept silent. And the high priest
answered and said to Him, "I put You under oath
by the living God: Tell us if You are the Christ, the Son of God!" 64 Jesus said to him, "It is as you said.
Nevertheless, I say to you, hereafter you will see the Son of Man sitting at
the right hand of the Power, and coming on the clouds of heaven." 65 Then the high priest tore his clothes,
saying, "He has spoken blasphemy! What further need do we have of
witnesses? Look, now you have heard His blasphemy! 66 "What do you think?" They
answered and said, "He is deserving of death." 67 Then they spat in His face and beat Him;
and others struck Him with the palms of their hands, 68 saying, "Prophesy to us, Christ! Who
is the one who struck You?" 69 Now Peter sat outside in the courtyard. And
a servant girl came to him, saying, "You also were with Jesus of
Galilee." 70 But he denied it before them all, saying,
"I do not know what you are saying." 71 And when he had gone out to the gateway,
another girl saw him and said to those who were there, "This fellow also
was with Jesus of Nazareth." 72 But again he denied with an oath, "I
do not know the Man!" 73 And a little later those who stood by came
up and said to Peter, "Surely you also are one of them, for your speech
betrays you." 74 Then he began to curse and swear, saying,
"I do not know the Man!" Immediately a rooster crowed. 75 And Peter remembered the word of Jesus who
had said to him, "Before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times." So he went out and wept bitterly. Matthew 27 1 When morning came, all the chief priests and
elders of the people plotted against Jesus to put Him to death. (NKJV) Mark 14 53 And they led Jesus away to the high priest;
and with him were assembled all the chief priests, the elders, and the scribes. 54 But Peter followed Him at a distance, right
into the courtyard of the high priest. And he sat with the servants and warmed
himself at the fire. 55 Now the chief priests and all the council
sought testimony against Jesus to put Him to death, but found none. 56 For many bore false witness against Him,
but their testimonies did not agree. 57 Then some rose up and bore false witness
against Him, saying, 58 "We heard Him say, 'I will destroy
this temple made with hands, and within three days I will build another made
without hands.'" 59 But not even then did their testimony
agree. 60 And the high priest stood up in the midst
and asked Jesus, saying, "Do You answer nothing?
What is it these men testify against You?" 61 But He kept silent and answered nothing.
Again the high priest asked Him, saying to Him, "Are You the Christ, the
Son of the Blessed?" 62 Jesus said, "I am. And you will see
the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming with the
clouds of heaven." 63 Then the high priest tore his clothes and
said, "What further need do we have of witnesses? 64 "You have heard the
blasphemy! What do you think?" And they all condemned Him to be
deserving of death. 65 Then some began to spit on Him, and to
blindfold Him, and to beat Him, and to say to Him, "Prophesy!" And
the officers struck Him with the palms of their hands. 66 Now as Peter was below in the courtyard,
one of the servant girls of the high priest came. 67 And when she saw Peter warming himself, she looked at him and said, "You also were
with Jesus of Nazareth." 68 But he denied it, saying, "I neither
know nor understand what you are saying." And he went out on the porch,
and a rooster crowed. 69 And the servant girl saw him again, and
began to say to those who stood by, "This is one of them." 70 But he denied it again. And a little later
those who stood by said to Peter again, "Surely you are one of them; for
you are a Galilean, and your speech shows it." 71 Then he began to curse and swear, "I
do not know this Man of whom you speak!" 72 A second time the rooster crowed. Then
Peter called to mind the word that Jesus had said to him, "Before the
rooster crows twice, you will deny Me three
times." And when he thought about it, he wept. Mark 15 1 Immediately, in the morning, the chief
priests held a consultation with the elders and scribes and the whole council;
and they bound Jesus, led Him away, and delivered Him to Pilate. (NKJV) Luke 22 24 Now there was also a dispute among them, as
to which of them should be considered the greatest. 25 And He said to them, "The kings of the
Gentiles exercise lordship over them, and those who exercise authority over
them are called 'benefactors.' 26 "But not so among
you; on the contrary, he who is greatest among you, let him be as the younger,
and he who governs as he who serves. 27 "For who is greater,
he who sits at the table, or he who serves? Is it not he who sits at the
table? Yet I am among you as the One who serves. 28 "But you are those who have continued
with Me in My trials. 29 "And I bestow upon you a kingdom, just
as My Father bestowed one upon Me, 30 "that you may eat and drink at My table in My kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the
twelve tribes of 31 And the Lord said, "Simon, Simon!
Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat. 32 "But I have prayed for you, that your
faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me,
strengthen your brethren." 33 But he said to Him, "Lord, I am ready
to go with You, both to prison and to death." 34 Then He said, "I tell you, Peter, the
rooster shall not crow this day before you will deny three times that you know Me." 35 And He said to them, "When I sent you
without money bag, knapsack, and sandals, did you lack anything?" So they
said, "Nothing." 36 Then He said to them, "But now, he who
has a money bag, let him take it, and likewise a knapsack; and he who has no
sword, let him sell his garment and buy one. 37 "For I say to you that this which is
written must still be accomplished in Me: 'And He was
numbered with the transgressors.' For the things concerning Me
have an end." 38 So they said, "Lord, look, here are
two swords." And He said to them, "It is enough." 39 Coming out, He went to the 40 When He came to the place, He said to them,
"Pray that you may not enter into temptation." 41 And He was withdrawn from them about a
stone's throw, and He knelt down and prayed, 42 saying, "Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My
will, but Yours, be done." 43 Then an angel appeared to Him from heaven,
strengthening Him. 44 And being in agony, He prayed more
earnestly. Then His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the
ground. 45 When He rose up from prayer, and had come
to His disciples, He found them sleeping from sorrow. 46 Then He said to them, "Why do you
sleep? Rise and pray, lest you enter into temptation." 47 And while He was still speaking, behold, a multitude;
and he who was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them and drew near
to Jesus to kiss Him. 48 But Jesus said to him, "Judas, are you
betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?" 49 When those around Him saw what was going to
happen, they said to Him, "Lord, shall we strike with the sword?" 50 And one of them struck the servant of the
high priest and cut off his right ear. 51 But Jesus answered and said, "Permit
even this." And He touched his ear and healed him. 52 Then Jesus said to the chief priests,
captains of the temple, and the elders who had come to Him, "Have you come
out, as against a robber, with swords and clubs? 53 "When I was with you daily in the
temple, you did not try to seize Me. But this is your
hour, and the power of darkness." 54 Having arrested Him, they led Him and
brought Him into the high priest's house. But Peter followed at a distance. 55 Now when they had kindled a fire in the
midst of the courtyard and sat down together, Peter sat among them. 56 And a certain servant girl, seeing him as
he sat by the fire, looked intently at him and said, "This man was also
with Him." 57 But he denied Him, saying, "Woman, I
do not know Him." 58 And after a little while another saw him
and said, "You also are of them." But Peter said, "Man, I am
not!" 59 Then after about an hour had passed,
another confidently affirmed, saying, "Surely this fellow also was with
Him, for he is a Galilean." 60 But Peter said, "Man,
I do not know what you are saying!" Immediately, while he was still
speaking, the rooster crowed. 61 And the Lord turned and looked at Peter.
And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how He had said to him, "Before
the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times." 62 So Peter went out and wept bitterly. 63 Now the men who held Jesus mocked Him and
beat Him. 64 And having blindfolded Him, they struck Him
on the face and asked Him, saying, "Prophesy! Who
is the one who struck You?" 65 And many other things they blasphemously
spoke against Him. 66 As soon as it was day, the elders of the
people, both chief priests and scribes, came together and led Him into their
council, saying, 67 "If You are
the Christ, tell us." But He said to them, "If I tell you, you will
by no means believe. 68 "And if I also ask you, you will by no
means answer Me or let Me go. 69 "Hereafter the Son
of Man will sit on the right hand of the power of God." 70 Then they all said, "Are You then the
Son of God?" So He said to them, "You rightly say that I am." 71 And they said, "What further testimony
do we need? For we have heard it ourselves from His own
mouth." (NKJV) John 18 12 Then the detachment of troops and the
captain and the officers of the Jews arrested Jesus and bound Him. 13 And they led Him away to Annas first, for he was the father-in-law of Caiaphas who was high priest that year. 14 Now it was Caiaphas
who advised the Jews that it was expedient that one man should die for the
people. 15 And Simon Peter followed Jesus, and so did
another disciple. Now that disciple was known to the high priest, and went with
Jesus into the courtyard of the high priest. 16 But Peter stood at the door outside. Then
the other disciple, who was known to the high priest, went out and spoke to her
who kept the door, and brought Peter in. 17 Then the servant girl who kept the door
said to Peter, "You are not also one of this Man's disciples, are
you?" He said, "I am not." 18 Now the servants and officers who had made
a fire of coals stood there, for it was cold, and they warmed themselves. And
Peter stood with them and warmed himself. 19 The high priest then asked Jesus about His
disciples and His doctrine. 20 Jesus answered him, "I spoke openly to
the world. I always taught in synagogues and in the temple, where the Jews always
meet, and in secret I have said nothing. 21 "Why do you ask Me?
Ask those who have heard Me what I said to them.
Indeed they know what I said." 22 And when He had said these things, one of
the officers who stood by struck Jesus with the palm of his hand, saying,
"Do You answer the high priest like that?" 23 Jesus answered him, "If I have spoken
evil, bear witness of the evil; but if well, why do you strike Me?" 24 Then Annas sent
Him bound to Caiaphas the high priest. 25 Now Simon Peter stood and warmed himself.
Therefore they said to him, "You are not also one of His disciples, are
you?" He denied it and said, "I am not!" 26 One of the servants of the high priest, a
relative of him whose ear Peter cut off, said, "Did I not see you in the
garden with Him?" 27 Peter then denied again; and immediately a
rooster crowed. (NKJV) Acts 1 18 (Now this man purchased a field with the
wages of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst open in the middle and all
his entrails gushed out. 19 And it became known to all those dwelling
