THE BIBLE versus EVOLUTION THEORY

I received my bachelor's degree in psychology and Bible in the sixties. The psychology courses were based in the current evolution theory. If that theory is true then the Bible's viewpoint of a short existence of the earth is a lie. If the Bible is true then the evolution theory cannot be right.

There are several archaeological studies in progress in the current news. There's the study of the remains of what appears to be the miraculous destruction of an Egyptian army and chariots in the large and deep Red Sea. There are chariot remains at the bottom of a trajectory of that sea. There's also the recent study of what appears to be the remains of Noah's ark (ship) in the Ararat Mountains. A miracle of a ship in the high mountain? These things definitely confirm the Bible's truths. If the Bible is true, then we should be examining our relationship to that Bible.

A. Archaeological Evidence Supporting the Bible

1. Israel in Canaan (1208 BC)

B. Nature-Based Contradictions to Evolutionary Theory

1. Irreducible Complexity

Systems that only work if all parts exist at once:

  • Bacterial flagellum

  • Blood clotting cascade

  • Eye lens focusing system

2. Cambrian Explosion

Fully formed animals appear suddenly with no transitions.

3. Lack of Transitional Fossils

Fossils show stasis, not gradual change.

4. Mutations Destroy Information

Mutations mostly break or reduce function — not create new complexity.

5. DNA Is a Code

Codes require intelligence; no natural process creates new coding systems.

6. Proteins Cannot Form Randomly

Probability of forming even one functional protein by chance is essentially zero.

7. Cells Are Advanced Factories

Even the simplest cell is more complex than any human-made factory.

8. Symbiotic Relationships

Many species require each other immediately (bees/flowers, coral/algae).

9. Human Consciousness

Reason, morality, creativity, and spirituality have no evolutionary pathway.

10. Earth’s Fine-Tuning

Earth’s conditions are precisely set for life — not accidental.

C. Evolution vs. Biblical Creation

Side-by-Side Comparison

Origin of Life

Evolution

Biblical Creation

Life from non-living chemicals.

Life created by God.

No intelligence involved.

Intelligence is the source.

No purpose.

Life is purposeful.

Origin of Species

Evolution

Biblical Creation

All species share a common ancestor.

God created distinct “kinds.”

Slow change over millions of years.

Kinds created fully formed.

Mutations + natural selection.

Design + intention.

Human Origins

Evolution

Biblical Creation

Humans evolved from ape-like ancestors.

Humans created directly by God.

Humans are advanced animals.

Humans bear God’s image.

No inherent moral purpose.

Humans have moral responsibility.

Fossil Record

Evolution

Biblical Creation

Gradual change.

Sudden appearance.

Transitional forms expected.

Transitional forms missing.

Cambrian explosion is natural.

Cambrian explosion fits creation.

Genetics

Evolution

Biblical Creation

Mutations create new information.

Mutations destroy information.

DNA arose naturally.

DNA is a designed code.

Shared DNA = common ancestry.

Shared DNA = common design.

Complexity of Life

Evolution

Biblical Creation

Complexity built slowly.

Complexity created fully functional.

Irreducible complexity is a challenge.

Irreducible complexity contradicts evolution.

Life began simple.

Even simple cells are complex.

Earth’s Conditions

Evolution

Biblical Creation

Earth formed by chance.

Earth is fine-tuned.

No purpose behind natural laws.

Natural laws reflect design.

Universe is indifferent.

Short Summary

Evolution:

HISTORICAL NOTES ON DEVELOPMENT OF EVOLUTION THEORY:

The modern theory of evolution originates from a sequence of developments that began long before Darwin but reached its scientific maturity through Darwin’s natural selection and the 20th-century Modern Synthesis.

Concise takeaway: The modern theory of evolution began with Charles Darwin and Alfred Russel Wallace’s natural selection (1858–1859) and became “modern” when Mendelian genetics was integrated with Darwinian selection during the 1920s–1940s, forming the Modern Synthesis.

Early roots (before Darwin)

  • Ancient and medieval thinkers recognized that species might change, but lacked a mechanism.

  • By the 17th–18th centuries, naturalists observed variation and extinction, undermining the old idea that species were fixed.

  • Jean-Baptiste Lamarck (early 1800s) proposed the first full evolutionary theory (“transmutation of species”), but his mechanism—inheritance of acquired traits—was later rejected.

Darwin and Wallace (1858–1859): The breakthrough

The modern theory truly begins with:

  • Darwin and Wallace’s joint 1858 paper proposing natural selection.

  • Darwin’s On the Origin of Species (1859), which explained evolution as descent with modification driven by natural selection, supported by evidence from biogeography, geology, morphology, and breeding experiments.

Darwin emphasized:

  • Variation

  • Heredity

  • Struggle for existence These principles explained how species change and diversify.

The Eclipse of Darwinism (1880–1920)

Although evolution was widely accepted, natural selection was not. Scientists proposed alternatives:

  • Neo-Lamarckism (inheritance of acquired traits)

  • Orthogenesis (innate drive toward complexity)

  • Saltationism (large mutations) These dominated until genetics matured.

The Modern Synthesis (1920s–1940s): Evolution becomes “modern”

The turning point came when Mendelian genetics was rediscovered (1900) and then mathematically integrated with Darwin’s ideas by:

  • Ronald Fisher

  • J.B.S. Haldane

  • Sewall Wright

This fusion created population genetics, showing how:

  • Variation arises through mutation and recombination

  • Natural selection acts on genetic variation

  • Evolution is change in allele frequencies over time

This Modern Synthesis unified Darwin’s natural selection with genetics, forming the foundation of modern evolutionary biology.

Summary

  • Early hints: Antiquity → Lamarck

  • Origin of the modern theory: Darwin & Wallace (1858–1859)

  • Full scientific foundation: Modern Synthesis (1920s–1940s) integrating genetics with natural selection

  • Result: A unified, evidence-based theory explaining how species change, adapt, and diversify over time.

Critical observation: Can a concept be scientifically labeled scientifically a theory without any confirmation?

Fact: In science, an observation that has been repeatedly confirmed and for all practical purposes is accepted as “true.” Truth in science, however, is never final and what is accepted as a fact today may be modified or even discarded tomorrow.

Note:

*Definitions by NCSE: National Center for Science Education.

  • Hypothesis: A tentative statement about the natural world leading to deductions that can be tested. If the deductions are verified, the hypothesis is provisionally corroborated. If the deductions are incorrect, the original hypothesis is proved false and must be abandoned or modified. Hypotheses can be used to build more complex inferences and explanations.

  • Law: A descriptive generalization about how some aspect of the natural world behaves under stated circumstances.

  • Theory: In science, a well-substantiated explanation of some aspect of the natural world that can incorporate facts, laws, inferences, and tested hypotheses.

An interesting Fact: An unproven hypothesis is not really a true “theory” in science. Evolution is not a true theory. It is an unproven hypothesis.
