LEGALISM

"A 'MODERN PROPHET' IS ONE WHO QUOTES OTHER FALSE PROPHETS"

Considering the dogma of so-called "legalism" that is based upon
Excerpts from "Prodigals and Pharisees"  by Fred Peatross:

"Legalism is not just sub-Christian or non-Christian. It is anti-
Christian. Pay close attention. Because the works of a legalist is
subtle. They have the answers for everyone and everything. They
confuse knowledge ** for spirituality."

"Martin Luther once said ..."

"Jerry Bridges addresses the error of the Christian Pharisee ..."

"The older brother in Luke 15 was so near, yet so far. So 'right' but
so wrong. He stood on the premise of grace, but was a stranger to its
promise. He seemed so good, hardworking, and obedient. But he had the
heart of a graceless beast."

"At different times in the past I have been both a prodigal and a
Pharisee*. But Christianity is found in neither. Christianity is
centered in Jesus.   (signed)Fred Peatross"

TRUTH:  (GOD'S "TRUTH WILL MAKE YOU FREE")

Let's consider the meaning of the word used: "legalism"; then let's consider the Scriptures that use the term. And let us compare some Scriptures to the subject.

English Dictionary

This word is not a New Testament term.  Nor could I find it in the Old Testament.

THE ORACLES OF GOD are to be "spoken" if anyone speaks for God:

1 Peter 4:11

"If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God. If anyone ministers, let him do it as with the ability which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen."

  (NKJV)

Compare to  Acts 7:38  "This is he that was in the church in the wilderness with the angel that spake to him in the Mount Sinai, and with our fathers: who received living oracles to give unto us: "

Acts 13:6
"Now when they had gone through the island to Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer,
a false prophet, a Jew whose name was Bar-Jesus,"

 Revelation 16:13
"And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs coming out of the mouth of the dragon, out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the
false prophet."

 Revelation 19:20
"
Then the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who worked signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image. These two were cast alive into the lake of fire burning with brimstone."

 Revelation 20:10
"The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and
the false prophet are. And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever."

(NKJV)

Deuteronomy 13:3
"you shall not
listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams, for the LORD your God is testing you to know whether you love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul."

 Deuteronomy 13:5
"But that prophet or that dreamer of dreams shall be put to death, because he has spoken in order to turn you away from the LORD your God,

My conclusion:

Division in Christendom and the world is caused by failure to respect God's oracles as written and confirmed by signs and faithful witnesses ages ago (Jesus rebuked the devil's oracles with "it is written" [Are we above Jesus? Can we answer the false prophet by speaking outside the oracles that are written?]).

*    Where were the Pharisees ever condemned by Jesus because of their obeying God's Law?

Rather, Jesus told them, "These you ought to have done AND not left the others undone."

  ** knowledge
Important consideration. What was the mission of Jesus? To bring "spirituality" or "knowledge" to the world and thereby salvation?

Luke 1:77 "To give knowledge of salvation to His people By the remission of their sins,

Luke 11:52 "Woe to you lawyers! For you have taken away the key of knowledge. You did not enter in yourselves, and those who were entering in you hindered."

Romans 1:28 "And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting;

Romans 10:2 "For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge.

Romans 11:33 "Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out!

Romans 15:14 "Now I myself am confident concerning you, my brethren, that you also are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, able also to admonish one another.
IMPORTANT:::

Matthew 11:27 "All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father. Nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him.

Matthew 26:74 "Then he began to curse and swear, saying, "I do not know the Man!" Immediately a rooster crowed

Mark 4:11 "And He said to them, "To you it has been given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God; but to those who are outside, all things come in parables,

Mark 12:24 "Jesus answered and said to them, "Are you not therefore mistaken, because you do not know the Scriptures nor the power of God?

John 4:42 "Then they said to the woman, "Now we believe, not because of what you said, for we ourselves have heard Him and we know that this is indeed the Christ, the Savior of the world."

John 7:17 "If anyone wants to do His will, he shall know concerning the doctrine, whether it is from God or whether I speak on My own authority.

John 8:19 "Then they said to Him, "Where is Your Father?" Jesus answered, "You know neither Me nor My Father. If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also."

John 12:35 "Then Jesus said to them, "A little while longer the light is with you. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you; he who walks in darkness does not know where he is going.

John 15:15 "No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you.

1 John 5:13 "These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.

Note: To be ignorant is not knowing. Those ignorant go about and establish "their own righteousness".
