He was rejected by His family: John 7:5 For neither did his brethren believe in him. |
He was rejected by His home people: Luke 4:22-24 22 And all bare him witness, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth. And they said, Is not this Joseph's son? 23 And he said unto them, Ye will surely say unto me this proverb, Physician, heal thyself: whatsoever we have heard done in Capernaum, do also here in thy country. 24 And he said, Verily I say unto you, No prophet is accepted in his own country. |
He was rejected by His nation: John 1:11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not. |
He was rejected by His nation: John 19:12-16 12 And from thenceforth Pilate sought to release him: but the Jews cried out, saying, If thou let this man go, thou art not Caesar's friend: whosoever maketh himself a king speaketh against Caesar. ...16 Then delivered he him therefore unto them to be crucified. And they took Jesus, and led him away. |
He was rejected by His nation: "A root out of a dry ground" (Isaiah 53) His "people" could not accept him from the despised Nazareth. [John 1:45-46] |
He was rejected by His nation: "A root out of a dry ground" (Isaiah 53) His "people" could not accept him from the despised Nazareth. [John 1:45-46] 45 Philip found Nathanael, and said to him, "We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, wrote: Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph." 46 Nathanael said to him, "Can any good thing come out of Nazareth?" |

He was betrayed and abandoned: |
He was betrayed and abandoned: John 6:66-71 66 From that time many of his disciples went back, `and walked no more with him. 67 Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away? 68 Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life. |
He felt sorrows of others. John 11:33-35 33 When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews also weeping which came with her, he groaned in the spirit, and was troubled, 34 And said, Where have ye laid him? They said unto him, Lord, come and see. 35 Jesus wept. |
He was shamed and disgraced. John 19:1- So Pilate then took Jesus, and flogged him. John 19:23- Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took his garments |
Genesis 3:16 Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee. 17 And unto Adam he said, ... cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life 18 Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field; 19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return. |

People do not inherit sin. |
Ezekiel 18:20 The soul who sins, he shall die: the son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son; the righteousness of the righteous shall be on him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be on him. |
But we do "inherit" and suffer sin's consequences. |
This includes the opportunity for us to choose to sin. |
Jas 1:14 But each one is tempted, when he is drawn away by his own lust, and enticed. 15 Then the lust, when it has conceived, bears sin; |
Romans 3:23 for all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God; |
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. |
"Consequently" we all sorrow because of our sins and the sins of others. For example, a child will suffer because his daddy gets drunk. |
Isaiah 53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with His stripes we are healed. |

Old ministers are called more often for funerals because it is assumed they have gone through sorrows and therefore are able to comfort. |
